Programs and Workshops

Drop in programs for parents/caregivers and the children they care for are available at Early Years Centres across the District of Thunder Bay-Superior North. Drop in programs at Early Years Centres are wonderful places to spend time meeting other parents/caregivers and children, and taking part in activities to enhance the child/parent relationship and promote early learning and development. Everyone is welcome and there are no fees for these programs.

Drop in programs are led by Early Years staff who support parents/caregivers in their role and provide age appropriate acitvities for children to enhance early learning. Both adults and children participating in these programs have the opportunity to experience structured early learning activities such as circle time songs, rhymes and stories, and unstructured activities such as free play using a variety of toys, props and materials.

Other programs and services offered during or in conjunction with Early Years drop in programs include:

• Lending libraries of toys, books, videos, music, equipment and other resources for parents/caregivers and children
• Referrals to other services for children and their families
• Family social events such as picnics, outings and shared meals
• Music programs
• Family programs: family fitness, family math
• School readiness programs
• Prenatal and postnatal support and programs
• Developmental screening
• Workshops to assist parents/caregivers in their role
• Literacy programs

Our program acitivities are designed to focus on parent/caregiver and child interaction.
