Roots of Literacy

Just like a tree must have the foundation of its roots to grow, a child requires a foundation in order to read and write. From the day children are born they are building this foundation, called early literacy.

Family Literacy Day- 20 in 2020

Family Literacy Day was created by ABC Life Literacy Canada to raise the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.  When families engage in literacy activities together, children learn that reading is important and valued. This year we are challenging families to spend 20 minutes each day in 2020 focusing on early learning and reading. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Literacy Support for Families

As your child's first teacher, you help lay that foundation for your child from birth.  Our centres offer:

  • Rhymes 
  • Books  
  • Pretend play 
  • Conversation 
  • Positive experiences 

Information for Families:

Newborns visiting any of our centres will receive a welcome bag that includes "Babies Love Books" (a month-to-month guide on reading with your baby) and a library gift voucher for a free book. Just visit one of our centres to receive your gift!
